Unconventional things to add to your daily Self-Care routine

This year we are focusing on becoming our best selves. The first part of becoming a happier person is having a good self-care routine. We all know the typical “light some candles” or “take a bubble bath”, but I want to add some other unconventional options that you should consider adding to your daily routine.

Self-Care Routine

Focus on your daily goals

The first thing you need to do when you wake up in the morning is visualize how you want your day to go. What do you want to accomplish today? Picture yourself doing everything you want to do and having the best attitude while getting those tasks done.

Random Acts of Kindness

Doing something nice for someone else can be incredibly rewarding and can boost your mood. Whether it’s paying for a stranger’s coffee or sending a handwritten thank-you note, these acts can make a significant impact on your well-being. Receiving a compliment makes my whole day, especially if I’m having a bad day. Adding a random act of kindness will not only make a stranger’s day, but it will make your day also.

Avoid the news

I know the news is important but these days it just seems like it’s just the most troubling stories for no reason. You rarely hear anything good on the news these days. If you can take a day or two break from the news. Silence news notifications or if you get your news from Social Media, it might be a good idea to do a digital detox for a couple of days also.

Take Vitamins

People don’t stress the importance of vitamins and supplements. Vitamins keep you healthy. To feel good on the outside you have to feel good on the inside. It’s hard to be your best self if you are bent over having stomach pains. Vitamins and Supplements like B12, Vitamin C, Pro- or Prebiotic can give you the energy and support to keep you going throughout your day.

1 hour of good music

Take 1 hour to listen to your favorite music. It could be while you’re working, exercising, doing household chores, or commuting to work or school. Music elevates your mood and should always be in your self-care routine. My favorite thing to do is take a nice car ride for an hour listening to my favorite mix with a White Chocolate Mocha Frappuccino from Starbucks. That’s the winning combination after a stressful day.

30 Mins of Movement

Take time to get off the couch and move around. Whether it’s just walking or dancing in your kitchen, just get up and move for 30 minutes. Use that as your “me” time and you will be surprised how good you feel afterward. Dancing in your living room, or playing a sport purely for fun. Movement should be joyful and invigorating, not a chore.

Journal

The most important thing you could probably add to your daily self-care routine is to Journal. Every night at the end of your day write down one good thing that happened that day. This will help you see what effect places or people have on your mood and how to adjust going forward. Always work toward having a positive attitude all day.

A daily self-care routine is essential to staying happy and healthy and these options are a great way to help you get through your days. It’s time we get a little selfish with our time and happiness. And if you can’t incorporate all of these into your routine, just commit to one each week and rotate them out. Don’t put too much pressure on yourself. Just do the best you can and make sure you put yourself first.
